Stomatherapy

"Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE) aims to help patients acquire or maintain the skills they need to best manage their lives with a chronic disease. It is an integral and permanent part of patient care" (WHO definition in 1998).

The Digestive Surgery department has been offering a Therapeutic Education program for Patients with a Digestive or Urinary Stoma since 2010. This program supports patients regardless of the establishment (public or private) where they were operated on.

Skills to be developed:

The patient must be able to:

- perform hygiene care

- gradually understand changes to the stoma pouch

- recognize and manage skin complications

- know the principles of balanced nutrition and hydration

- maintain a satisfactory quality of life
